One of the reasons we shouldn’t view broad and directionless anti-Trump sentiment as an unqualified sign of success is because if a Democrat manages to win the presidency in 2020 then most of the liberals are going to go right back to thinking that genocide and empire and ethnonationalism are cool actually so long as their guy is doing it.
Search your feelings. You know this to be true.
Remember how fuck-off massive the anti-war movement was right up until 2008? And how it all withered up and blew away once the wars became Obama’s wars? History may not repeat itself, but sometimes it rhymes.
We need to prepare for 2021. Either Trump stays in office, or a Democrat replaces him, and while the latter possibility is certainly less terrible, neither possibility bodes well. And you’re a damned fool if you think that the Democrat who could replace Trump would roll back even a one of the structural problems that facilitated Trump’s excesses, even if the apparatus does get a fresh coat of paint.
So, prepare for 2021. Prepare for either a further descent into fascism or a soft correction into neoliberal technocracy, depending on if they pick the red guy or the blue guy.
LMAOOOOO you’re an idiot
Hey, asshole. My family’s banned from the country because of “red guy”.
Trump is a symptom, not the disease. Progress is so much easier to roll back than it is to implement, even if we get a blue guy in the office, republicans control ALL THREE branches of government. We cannot stop fighting just because we get Trump out, and you’re an idiot if you think people won’t become complacent.
I like how these notes are a perfect example of the problem I was addressing. Not only do they make no attempt to address the content of the post but in fact their outrage is *directly at odds with what the post actually says.* And yet here we are.
And by “I like” I mean this shit is exhausting can we please learn to read things and engage with people critically
Sorry I wasn’t talking to you when I made my reply, I was just frustrated with the first two replies. I am 100% in agreement with you, my apologies if I didn’t make that clear.
Please please PLEASE don’t mistake the lesser of two evils as so much better that we can’t criticize them. I REALIZE the current political environment makes that REALLY hard, but the Democrats need to do better too.
@battlships oh no not at all, I was also addressing those two up above, sorry if it seemed like I was grouching at you
Okay good, just making sure! But yeah, I’m so frustrated with trying to talk about how it’s not just Trump we need to get rid of and being painted as almost a Trump apologist. Like, literally nothing in your post gave the impression that you were defending “the red guy”?? Just that the blue guy usually isn’t as blue as people think.
